We are growing and looking for a Design Engineer who will be responsible for new product development releases and supporting API Delevan’s world-wide customer base. The Design Engineer will interact with external customers as well as all internal areas of the business to ensure a successful on time new product introduction. This position requires a strong leader who is capable of and committed to providing input and smooth transition to the core operations team. With the result of ensuring all projects are taken from prototype phase to high volume production phase. 100% of the job focus will be on achieving the project deliverables and delivering a robust design, product, and process to the manufacturing cell.

This role will be joining the API Delevan team in East Aurora, NY. 

API DELEVAN is an electronics manufacturer of Inductors, Radio Frequency coils, chokes, transformers, and resolvers with a strong brand for nearly 70 years, and the only manufacturer in the world with Mil-PRF-39010 Level ‘S’ accreditation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and develop new products; lead the introduction from prototype through production.
  • Responsible for all documentation to include bills of material, new material drawings and engineering instructions.
  • Review customer inquiries and develop design concept proposals.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering team to execute new product development trials, calculations, testing, etc.
  • Support all prototype, first time build and high-volume production processes, including producibility reviews & process capability studies with strong input into supplier selection.
  • Responsible for design development for new product launches, including but not limited to build playbook, cell layout, request of needed assembly fixtures, etc.
  • Support VAVE initiatives and design to cost activities.
  • Maintain and improve existing product designs.
  • Work closely with teams consisting of representatives from purchasing, planning, operations, and quality.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation (models, drawings, specifications, etc.).
  • Perform engineering calculations as necessary for product selection criteria based on customer provided parameters.
  • Support capital expense requirements and submissions for new equipment purchases.
  • Support building processes for validating and sustaining.
  • Build relationships and trust with cross functional team that fosters buy in and seamless transfer of ownership during and after launch phase.
  • Build relationships with external customers to ensure new product development is meeting requirements.

Expected Outcomes

  • Thorough, on-time, and successful product launches.
  • Thorough handoff to Operations upon project completions and ensure production readiness for transition from prototype to high volume production.

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience or related design field in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • CAD software experience (Solid works preferred)
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints & geometric tolerances (GD&T)
  • Lean manufacturing tool knowledge highly preferred (6 sigma, 5S, Value Stream)
  • Proficiency in leading and maintaining PFMEA’s and DFMEA’s
  • Ability to navigate between internal departments to build relationships, enable information flow, and drive successful project management and delivery
  • Comfortable leading in cross-functional, commercial, and multi-cultural teams

Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% as needed, to support new product development phases.
