We are the proud owner of a patented casting process that supplies coiled aluminum sheet to the packaging and automotive markets with a broad range of alloys, thicknesses, and coatings. The Cold Rolling & Finishing Process Engineer serves a critical role in support of manufacturing to ensure processes are in control and continually improved with respect to safety, quality, productivity, and cost. These processes include cold rolling, annealing, leveling, washing, slitting, and packaging of aluminum coil products. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, leadership, self-initiative, good communication, and teamwork. The Process Engineer stays abreast of modern technologies and applies them as appropriate to improve area performance. The position reports to the Director of Technical & Quality Systems but works directly with all members of the Golden Aluminum team.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure the effectiveness and continuous improvement of the Golden Aluminum Quality Management System (QMS) to achieve department and GAI Quality Objectives. Work with utmost integrity in support of company values, policies and procedures.
  • Support the Cold Rolling, Annealing, and Finishing processes including specific duties in:

Oversight, improvement of product quality, safety, productivity, and cost.

Maintenance of Process FMEAs and effective application of Control Plans.

Control of the cold rolled gauge, flatness, surface quality and yield.

Work with external providers to improve processes.

Control of the Cold Mill coolant quality.

Control of annealing temperature uniformity, furnace atmospheres, cycle efficiency, furnace surveys, and cost.

Control of Tension Leveler and Slitter quality and maximization of yield

Ensuring correct coil traceability through all area operations

Leading, driving effective Corrective and Preventive Action

Periodic written and verbal reporting

Creation and maintenance of Work Instructions

Daily communication of issues and opportunities to upstream and downstream operations

Daily communication and follow up with Maintenance and Engineering on equipment issues and opportunities.

Internal procedural and process audits as assigned.

Participation in External Audits as assigned.

Customer interaction as assigned.

Training of area personnel in procedures and standards

Other reports, projects or tasks as assigned.


 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong aptitude and desire to improve plant operations. Full commitment to complete training in process and problem-solving skills in a timely manner. Demonstrated competency upon completion of the training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to create or revise procedures for increased effectiveness.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills. Must be able to effectively present logical information in a structured fashion to different levels of the organization and customer base.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • BS in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 2+ years direct experience as a Quality and/or Process engineer in a heavy manufacturing environment. Experience in rolled coil products and processes.
  • Familiarity with PFMEA, Control Plans, Kaizen, SMED, and other lean tools.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to create or revise procedures for increased effectiveness.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills. Must be able to effectively present logical information in a structured fashion to different levels of the organization and customer base.

Salary range: $80,000 -- $120,000 DOE
