FULL-TIME/PERMANENT
ENGINEERING AIDE 3 (EA3)
 
Capital & Asset Management Program (CAMP)
Olympia, Washington - Thurston County
 

Provide journey level skilled computer-aided design (CAD) drafting and design of preliminary functional to basic final contract drawings by utilizing your general knowledge of construction standards and techniques.

Assist CAMP’s engineers in the design of projects by completing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings and details from design sketches and existing drawings.

With that in mind, 

Picture yourself preparing drawings generated from topographical maps developed from survey information and prepare detailed construction plans developed from rough sketches or verbal instructions from engineers.

In this dynamic role you will draft architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.

This is an opportunity to calculate quantities of areas and volumes in complex shapes, yardages and other earth moving quantities.

Duties:
Our Engineering Aide 3,   

Completes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drafting: 

  • Details and plans drafts from old drawings – mostly completes sketches.
  • Calculates yardages and other quantities subject to check. 
  • Drafts finished maps. 
  • Calculates and plots graphs, profiles, and statistical, mathematical or engineering-type graphic illustrations. 
  • Revises construction plans with “as built” corrections.

Performs Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Structural, and Hydraulic Design Tasks:

  • Prepares calculations and routine designs for review and use in CAD drafting.
  • Prepares water velocity, head loss, and weir height calculations for structures including pumps, weirs, dams, screens, trash racks, ditches.  

Performs office duties: 

  • Solicits bids for materials and tools for various minor projects. 
Executes inspections: 
  • Inspects construction and document compliance with construction plans.
Participates in surveying: 
  • Obtains data for project control and prepares calculations for field staking of coordinates for construction layout and control. 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Duties are performed in an office setting and at construction sites -includes hatcheries, offices, accesses, and wildlife areas. 
    • Occasionally requires walking on uneven terrain and steep slopes for extended periods of time, climbing ladders, working from boats and comfortability working in elevated locations.
    • Field work involves working in inclement weather conditions - must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically scheduled Monday - Friday - may be required to work more than 40 hours per week or on weekends. 
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Requires travel as required.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Computer hardware and software, hand tools and survey equipment.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Will mainly interact with Lead Engineers, Engineering Aides, and Inspectors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

AND 

  • Four (4) years of experience with Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD). 

OR

  • Four (4) years of college level coursework with a major emphasis in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD).

Working Knowledge of: 

  • Microsoft Suite computer software.
  • AutoCAD drafting software and methods.
  • Drafting techniques.
  • Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Principles of surveying. 
  • Basics of engineering. 

Ability to: 

  • Accomplish a wide range of drafting and tracing assignments ranging from simple overlays to interpreting sketch materials into finished working drawings.

License/Certifications: 

  • Valid Drivers License. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
