Project Engineer, Kenai Defense

Kenai Defense is a prime, U.S. defense contractor based in St George, UT.  We currently partner with the U.S. Air Force, Army, and other agencies to develop innovative technologies that support warfighters and military installations worldwide.  As a defense contractor, we collaborate with academia and industry to test, optimize, and provide technologies for government customers.  These technologies are designed to save lives, increase U.S. defense capabilities, and give soldiers a competitive edge in extreme environmental and combat conditions.  
 
Currently, we are seeking a knowledgeable professional to serve as a Project Engineer.  The Project Engineer will be responsible for providing technical and design expertise for multiple programs developing and fielding defense technologies.  This individual will perform the following essential job functions:  
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Material design and testing
  • Prototype modeling
  • Prototype design and testing
  • Structural design
  • Collaboration with engineering teams at partner academic institutions
  • Patent application
  • Technical research
  • Technical reporting
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Coordination with project managers
  • Technical proposal development
  • Innovation and concept development
  • Technical presentations
  • Technical team oversight
 
Qualifications/Skills:
 
  • Material design knowledge
  • Engineering design software proficiency
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Mechanical and structural testing knowledge
  • Problem solving and strong data analysis skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with multiple team members
  • Research and development project knowledge
 
Education, Experience, and Licensing 
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field required
  • Master’s or PhD preferred
  • 4 years of experience (2 years with the completion of a master’s degree or PhD in a related field)
  • Aerospace and or unmanned system experience preferred
  • Unmanned aerial systems knowledge preferred
  • Experience with working on university or government research and development projects preferred
 
Additional Information
 
This position is a full-time salaried position.  Salary range is between $70,000 and $120,000, based upon experience and education.  Kenai Defense health benefits, 401(k) matching, and generous paid time off and holidays.
