The role:  
We are seeking an experienced assistant resident engineer – consultant projects to lead the work of contractors and ensure the safety of highway construction. You will be responsible for administering projects delivered by consultants for transportation project work. Bring your skills and join our team in region 5. Apply today!

A day in the life:
  • Administer consultant and construction contracts including design and construction of structures, highways, traffic signals, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, and buildings.
  • Coordinate inspection activities on highway construction projects.
  • Assist in contract administration functions assuring quality and quantity documentation is completed.
  • Assist and prepare price adjustments for non-specification material and work.
  • Provide oversite of consultants and contractors to assure disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE) compliance on projects.
  • Monitor project engineering, consultant, and construction budgets.
  • Initiate, negotiate, prepare, review, and develop estimates and justifications for proposed contract change orders (CCO), work orders (WO), and state force orders (SFO).
  • Anticipate and resolve project issues.
  • Represent projects at public meetings and local civic groups.
  • Drive to project sites to review progress and address problems.
  • Perform most work outdoors, with exposure to hazards of traffic, construction equipment, construction site safety hazards, and all-weather conditions.
  • Hybrid remote work may be available, with manager approval.

 What we need:
Five years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments.
OR
A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying or Transportation-related Engineering and two years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience in interpreting highway and bridge construction procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of mathematics, land surveying methods and Microsoft computer software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in coordinating inspection activities on complex highway construction projects.
