The role:  
Join our team in La Grande as a right of way utility specialist! You will support the utilities crew by directing and monitoring the work of public and private utility engineers in the relocation of their conflicting facilities prior to highway construction projects. A day in the life:
  • Complete field checks with utility company representatives to determine proper routes for relocating utility facilities.
  • Consult with representatives from local city and county governments, utility companies and consultants to assist in the development, organization and coordination of utility relocations.
  • Review estimates and sketch maps submitted by each utility prior to commencement of work to make sure that those relocated portions are indicated correctly.
  • Consult with and coordinate utility conflicts and relocation with other sections within ODOT.
  • Review estimates for conformance with federal requirements and recommend their approval.
  • Prepare reports for project timing and status.
  • Coordinate the activities of utilities with State activities on all highway projects in the region.
  • Attend local Utility Coordinating Council meetings.
  • Review project design layout provided by roadway designers for conflicts.
  • Research right of way maps for easements to establish if utilities may be reimbursable.
  • Hybrid remote work may be available, with manager approval.

 What we need:
Seven years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. Two years of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments in drafting, field or laboratory inspection, construction contract administration, surveying, materials testing, or traffic investigations.
 
OR
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying or transportation-related engineering and four years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.
 
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
 
Special qualifications:
A Fundamentals of Engineering certification is preferred.

  • Effective in all forms of communication.
