A day in the life:
  • Inspect materials and performance on moderate to high complexity construction projects.
  • Perform calculations to calculate project quantities.
  • Enforce contractor compliance to plans and specifications.
  • Submit and manage project documentation using a digital document management system.
  • Assist the QCCS in the administration of the Quality Assurance Program on transportation construction projects.
  • Review plans and specifications during project development.
  • Work as a member of a survey team, performing location, construction, and right of way surveying.
  • Record accurate field notes and project records.
  • Monitor safety issues and take appropriate action to mitigate.
  • Work is performed outdoors 50% or more of the time. Exposure to all types of weather. Long hours, including being on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week, are required. Considerable travel with overnight stays is required. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and travers.

What we need:
Five and one-half years (66 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.
 
OR
An associate degree in engineering technology from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering AND four years of experience directly related to engineering.
 
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience inspecting highway construction projects.
  • Experience testing materials used to construct highway projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, technicians, and engineers.
  • Comfortable working long hours outdoors, including night shifts and weekends.
  • Experience reading and interpreting contract plans and specifications.
