The role:  
As the senior traffic recorder technician, you will independently conduct field studies and compile data for traffic movement, vehicle usage and vehicle distribution. You will play a key role in obtaining field traffic data to be used in engineering surveys and studies for your designated area. Join our team by applying today!

A day in the life:
  • Ability to work in and around high volumes of traffic and judge traffic conditions for the safe deployment of traffic counting equipment.
  • Drive and operate vans, pickups, etc. safely for long hours and be able to adapt to changing traffic situations.
  • Ability to work varied hours in the early morning and night.
  • Be self-driven to complete tasks and duties with only general direction.
  • Use of vendor specific software for provisioning, calibrating, and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Schedule and monitor work for the Manual Traffic Counting Program.
  • Ability to plan out daily activities within a large geographic area.
  • Ability to look at data for changes in patterns and make decisions on acceptable data.
  • Work safely around electrical equipment and use good judgment in doing so.
  • Provide basic vegetation control using hand tools, and power equipment. Ability to learn new equipment, and follow documentation to operate equipment.
  • Will be required to drive for long periods of time.

 What we need:
Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience
 
OR
An associate degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering AND two (2) years of experience directly related to engineering.
 
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note: You do not need to have all of these qualities to be eligible for this position.  
  • Familiar with working in high volume traffic and how to make safe judgements on installation of equipment in that environment.
  • Familiar with computers technology, electrical testing equipment, and map reading.
  • Ability to install equipment with hand tools, power tools, and how to do this safely.
  • Ability to work long hours.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under tight timelines.
