Oregon Department of Transportation
Delivery & Operations Division – Region 5

Salary Range: $4,306 - $6,680

You will mentor the team and perform surveying needed to support transportation facilities in the region. A day in the life:
  • Establish horizontal and vertical control for proposed and existing facilities.
  • Perform detailed surveys. Locate and tie government corner, property corners, cultural features, and terrain. Produce three dimensional topographic and cadastral maps.
  • Establish monument right-of-way and construction centerlines. Monument right-of-way and other property boundaries.
  • Maintain, adjust, and calibrate survey equipment.
  • Research maps and surveys filed in the County Surveyor’s Office.
  • Use computer software programs (i.e.; Micro station, Inroads, Caice, and Liscad) to perform survey calculations, develop digital terrain models, and survey base maps.
  • Communicate survey information orally and in writing.
  • Responsible for coaching team, training co-workers to perform duties, and establishing a safe working environment.
  • Maintain and enhance professional skills by attending continuing education and agency-provided training opportunities.
  • Approximately 60% of the work is performed in the field with exposure to rough terrain, traffic, and all types of weather. Approximately 40% of the work is performed in an office, using a computer and drafting table. May be required to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Travel is required, with frequent overnight stays.

 What we need:
Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group;
 
OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience;
 
OR
 
An associate degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group;
 
OR
 
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Surveying, or Transportation-related Engineering and one-year civil engineering or surveying experience.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience and knowledge in land surveying and use of equipment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Organized, efficient, resourceful, and reactive to deadlines, independently and within a team.
  • Ability to use conventional and computer-aided programs for engineering calculations, drafting, and mapping.
  • Experience and efficiency across the Microsoft office programs.
  • Ability to use web database systems.
