Postdoctoral Scholar Employee Position, XR Research Engineer

 

Department: Qualcomm Institute

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience

 

Appointment: 24 months (extendable based on mutual agreement and available funding)

 

Start Date: April 1, 2023

 

The Qualcomm Institute (QI) is dedicated to bringing together interdisciplinary teams at UC San Diego and beyond to leverage cutting-edge technology to address large-scale challenges facing the 21st century. QI conducts pioneering research in technology, culture, energy, the environment, and health; provides a range of research and other services to its partners and affiliates; and offers varied hands-on educational opportunities.

 

The Postdoctoral Scholar Employee will reside at the UC San Diego campus and will be expected to participate actively in the intellectual life of the University. The research focus is development of a cutting-edge augment reality and virtual reality system for medical training. https://wellcomeleap.org/save/

 

Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in one or more of the following fields: Robotics, Computer Science and Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering, or a related field. The candidate must have earned their PhD prior to start.

 

Qualifications:

• Real-time video analytics (object detection, tracking, and 3D reconstruction)

• Computer graphics (mesh generation, 3D photorealistic rendering and 3D modeling)

• Electromechanical system development (embedded systems, telecommunication, and haptic

interfaces)

• Programming in C++, Java, or Swift;

• Optical system design and prototyping

• Haptic system design and prototyping
