Senior Environmental Planner
POWER Engineers’ Environmental Division provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment, and corrective action services to clients worldwide.
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Planner with American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification for our Western Environmental Services Group to primarily support power delivery and renewable energy generation projects , and to join our 275 + person environmental team.
The Senior Environmental Planner can be based in our Phoenix, AZ office location with the opportunity to work in a hybrid workstyle setting, a combination of home and office. This is a full-time, salaried position that comes with a great benefits package.
Roles and Responsibilities
This person will implement the following duties:
- Research local, state, and federal permitting requirements
- Prepare and lead local zoning, general plan amendments, and conditional use/special use permit applications, along with hearing presentations
- Communicate environmental protocols and requirements at hearings, public meetings, and with other key community stakeholders.
- Prepare and lead technical writing of environmental planning and analysis documents
- Assist project managers with project controls, team coordination, budget, and forecasting
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates for business development efforts
- Lead internal and external staff and project coordination meetings
- Prepare and review project schedules and milestones
- Interface with internal Project Managers, engineers, and scientists; and external clients and subcontractors
- Manage multiple projects at various stages, disciplines, and locations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education/Experience
- BS degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related degree
- AICP certification, or the ability to qualify for an exam and pass it within 6 months of employment
- Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience
- Ability to travel, up to 25% of the time for site visits and client meetings, including weekday evenings for hearings and public open house meetings
- Understanding of municipal and county zoning codes and general plans
- Knowledge and interest in federal, state, and local environmental policy and regulation
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Desired Education/Experience
- An advanced graduate-level degree is a plus
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of site development process
- Experience working in a municipal, county, or regional planning agency
