The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Rest Area and Weight Facility Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Advanced) position in the Bureau of Highway Maintenance.

This full-time position can be headquartered in the following locations:

  • Central Office (Madison)
  • Northwest Region (Superior)
  • North Central Region (Wisconsin Rapids or Rhinelander)
  • Southwest Region (Madison or La Crosse)
  • Southeast Region (Waukesha)

Position Summary

This position assists the Roadside Facilities Supervisor with the administration of various highway operations within the Roadside Facilities program. This position provides highly technical engineering expertise to assist in the development of the statewide rest area, wayside, motor carrier safety and weight enforcement facility (SWEF), and vehicle weigh in motion (VWIM) facility plans. The primary responsibility is the administration, development, and implementation of the Department of Transportation’s roadside facilities SWEF and VWIM program.

This position also provides engineering design and technical assistance to the Division of State Patrol for location, as well as design, construction oversight and maintenance of motor carrier enforcement facilities. It provides coordination between the division’s highway improvement program and the State Patrol’s motor carrier program. In addition, it provides engineering design, construction oversight and technical assistance relative to the operation and maintenance of rest area and wayside facilities.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $77,168 - $93,350, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state
