The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Automotive Mechanic/Equipment Repair Technician to join our Durham County Equipment team.
 
In this role, you will:
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled small engine, automotive, heavy equipment, and mechanic work.
  • Service, diagnose, repair, and rebuild mechanical systems for gasoline/diesel-powered automotive and heavy equipment.
  • Perform mechanic work at various levels. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system.
  • Prepare paperwork for employment and equipment repair.
 
What You Bring
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on at least one of the following: light, medium, heavy duty trucks, and/or heavy equipment.
  • A complete set of mechanic tools.
  • Commercial Driver's License. (If you don't have it, you can gain it through our on-the-job training.  It's required within 360 days of hire.)
  • Experience diagnosing basic electrical systems and performing proper wiring repairs.
  • Experience in basic hydraulic system repairs including component and hose replacements.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic software, tools, and equipment for trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Experience in the diagnosis and repairs of manual transmission components.
  • Ability to repair and maintain automotive and heavy equipment and diagnose problems using diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Strength to safely lift and move heavy objects, parts, and materials necessary to repair and maintain equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment for testing purposes.
  • Ability to work in an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a safe working environment by leading by example.
  • Ability to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals, read schematics, diagrams, and sketches.
 
Notes
  • A pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • We will conduct a background check for your past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
  • Safety toe footwear is required within 30 days of hire.
  • We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
 
Education & Experience
  • High School/GED diploma, and
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
