Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced Civil Engineer or Structural Engineer for the Philadelphia Metropolitan area (Pennsylvania, Northern Delaware, and South Jersey).  Our consultants work in the field approximately three days a week and remotely from home approximately two days a week primarily serving Eastern Pennsylvania, Northern Delaware, and South Jersey. 

The ideal candidate will have broad experience within the engineering and/or construction fields with any of the following work experience: design, construction, field experience, or construction management and administration experience in any civil discipline.  Preferred experience includes consulting, design, construction, and knowledge of building codes.

Overview

In this position, the Civil/Structural Engineer will apply their technical knowledge and previous work experiences to help assess and determine the origin and cause of failures for our clients' various complex and unique problems. Some of these problems will include design, construction, safety/OSHA compliance, storm damage, foundations, hydrology, property condition, and flooding assessments

Essential Job Functions

  • Field Investigations: Study and determine the cause and origin of construction defects or structural failures.
  • Produces written forensic reports detailing the causes and origins of construction defects and/or structural failures.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously. Coordinates support to produce client reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that procedure is being followed and checks on the safety features of the project when it is completed.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
  • Make civil and structural assessments from a variety of causes such as fire, wind, impact, construction standard of care, estimation, vibration claims, and building envelope breakdown.
  • Perform timely, accurate analyses, prepare reports, and present findings to the Client and other interested parties.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work along and as part of a team that includes a variety of engineering disciplines, architects, and scientist, to determine the root cause of an incident.

Required Education and Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in any Civil Discipline
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License or Structural Engineering (S.E.) License in the State of Pennsylvania preferred; E.I. with applicable experience and the ability to obtain licensure will be considered
  • In addition to a License in the State of Pennsylvania, multi-state licensure is a plus (D.E., MD, NJ, or N.Y.)
  • General Contractor's License is a plus.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Five plus years of experience, which include at least two of the following: Design, Construction, Materials, Geotechnical, Structural, Water Resources, Geometrics (Transportation), Commercial Construction, Residential Construction, Resident Engineer, Estimation, Knowledge of a variety of Construction Documents, Construction Administration and Construction Management.
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and building component assemblies.
  • Analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, and other technical references.
  • The ability to clearly communicate engineering/architectural issues to clients and other interested parties, both verbally and in written reports.
  • Must be hands-on in conducting field investigations.
  • Requires prompt responsiveness to peers and clients
  • S. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent report writing skills.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Work is performed in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, squat, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. There will be periods where overtime and unconventional hours will be required, which the employee will need to comply with to meet the demands of the position.

Travel Requirements - This position requires travel, mostly day trips. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required on occasion.

The Salary Range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.
