Job Description:

Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? UDRI invites qualified candidates to apply for our Research Chemist opening!

Investigates alternative- and petroleum-derived jet fuel mixtures using a wide variety of instrumentation and methods. These methods include GC, GCxGC, HPLC, SPE sample preparation, ICP-MS, dielectric constant measurement, wet chemical techniques and other advanced instruments and methods. Requires an excellent chemistry background (particularly organic and/or petroleum chemistry). Develops new methods for instrumentation, or applies or modifies existing methods, and describes these methods in written form. Conducts quantitative analysis of fuel mixtures for chemical composition using standards and appropriate calibration techniques. Organizes analytical tasks in conjunction with other researchers. Reports and communicates findings primarily through reports and presentations. Interacts frequently with coworkers and government sponsors.

 

Minimum Qualifications
Requires BS in Chemistry or a related discipline, and at least 4 years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
Excellent knowledge of organic/petroleum chemistry.
Must be organized, attentive to details and multi-task well.
Some knowledge of quantitative analysis in determining chemical composition.
Must be self-motivated, able to collaborate easily with others, and have strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
Excellent computer skills are essential, especially in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PPT).
US Citizen required.
 
Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

MS in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a similar discipline, with at least 2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
Significant experience with GC-MS or GCxGC and other similar analytical systems is preferred.
Extensive knowledge of quantitative analysis including calibration methods is desirable; statistical background or experiences are a plus.
Familiarity with Agilent-based GC and MS systems, with operating software and search techniques is preferred. Experience with jet fuels or other complex organic/petroleum mixtures is preferred.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
