Job Description:

Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? UDRI invites qualified candidates to apply for our Associate Research Engineer opening!

An Associate Research Engineer/Scientist assists other researchers in measurement, testing and evaluation of aviation turbine fuels and related materials. Activities may include analytical work, construction of new devices, techniques and instrumentation to conduct property testing, etc. Part of their responsibilities include: constructing, operating, and maintaining experimental devices to achieve the prescribed research goals; acquiring, analyzing, interpreting and reporting scientific data; and maintaining chemical laboratory equipment and supplies. This person could contribute (or eventually contribute) to proposal efforts.
 

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or a related field of study (such as chemistry/biochemistry) OR equivalent work experience to demonstrate fundamental knowledge and experience in one or more of these fields
• General knowledge or interest in organic chemistry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• US Citizen required
 
Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

* MS degree in a related discipline
* At least 1 year of experience in a related job or co-op position
* Previous experience constructing, operating, and/or maintaining laboratory experiments and laboratory instruments
• Previous experience acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data
• Previous experience maintaining chemical laboratory equipment and supplies
• Exhibits a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Exhibits effective interpersonal communication skills
• Exhibits strong self-motivation and initiative
• Demonstrated experience writing technical reports or proposals
• Demonstrated successful experience working/collaborating with colleagues, supervisors, or fellow students
* Experience with GC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, HPLC, other instrumental methods is a plus
