We are currently looking for an individual with a chemical engineering background who will be our Process Safety Engineer in York, SC supporting our silicone manufacturing operations.
 
DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for supporting the success of the Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) Compliance program.  This position’s responsibilities include leading the site Process Safety analysis efforts, providing support to site Management-of-Change review process, and developing and managing engineering projects to improve the safety of working environments.  The incumbent will recommend and support the implementation of actions to ensure site activities are compliant with corporate, local, state, and federal EHS regulations.  He/she will also have an active role in leading and supporting various activities as they relate to the site’s Responsible Care Management System (RC 14001).
 
The successful candidate will work under general guidance to coordinate actions and lead various functions through influence in order to ensure safe practices and compliance with regulations and company requirements.  They will spend time on activities such as auditing manufacturing processes and equipment, coordinating responses to deviations, providing safety training, researching regulations to determine actions to correct deviations.  
 
The successful incumbent will perform structured assignments, applying their specialized area of knowledge.  This includes organizing, leading, and following up on PHA findings.  This position will lead communication efforts on PHA finding to ensure risks are understood by employees who may be exposed to those risks. Collaborating with others, they will review new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards and recommends modification as needed.  They will monitor process safety performance and recommend actions for improvement.  From time to time, it may be required that they organize a group of people to analyze failures. 
 
Impact and influence skills are applied when working with others in various functions and positions in order to accomplish goals. This position is expected to be knowledgeable of various regulations to be able to ensure compliance and to be able to lead and support activities the function is responsible for.  The Process Safety Engineer will work independently, seeking guidance from the HSSE Manager for unique or complex situations.  He/she will collaborate with employees and supervisors to identify and correct potential process safety hazards. Finally, they will develop safe standard work practices with line personnel and monitor conformance through audits and inspections.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
•            BA/BS degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred)
•            Min 5 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing or other related environment with primary job responsibilities related to Safety Engineering – process and project work related to maintenance and improvement of a site’s HSSE Process Safety compliance
•            Strong understanding of chemical manufacturing processes as it relates to Process Safety Analysis
•            Self-starter and ability to work independently
•            Familiar with regulatory health, safety, environmental, and security requirements (OSHA, EPA, Homeland Security, etc.) applicable to the operation of a chemical manufacturing facility
•            Familiar with Process Hazard Analyses requirements of the OSHA PSM regulation
•            Prior experience leading Process Hazard Analysis studies preferred
•            Familiar with Quality and HSSE Mgmt. Systems such as RCMS, RC14001, ISO14001, ISO13485, cGMP, etc.
•            Familiar with Lean Manufacturing concept and tools (i.e. Six Sigma experience or certification) desired.
•            Ability to be organized with a strong attention to detail and time management skills required.
•            Experience gathering and analyzing data to identify trends and identify applicable actions.
•            Prior experience managing engineering projects is preferred.
•            Proven ability to identify problems and propose successful resolutions.
•            The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership as well as with plant personnel.
•            Knowledge of various IT systems including MS Office, SAP or similar systems and databases is desirable.
•            Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
•            Able to travel periodically, both domestic and international
