The role:  
Our Region 1 team plans, builds, operates and maintains the multimodal transportation system, implements agency programs and facilitates intermodal solutions for Clackamas, Hood River, Multnomah, and Washington counties.

You will ensure contract compliance on complex construction projects, monitor project safety procedures and methods and provide project information to the resident engineer. A day in the life:
  • Work with the project coordinator on project development activities before contracts are awarded.
  • Interpret contract documentation and resolve potential problems.
  • Inspect and monitor construction to assure materials and work are in line with project plans.
  • Measure and record contractor work and prepare documents to justify payments.
  • Represent ODOT in communications with the contractor, public or other interested parties.
  • Monitor project safety procedures and traffic control.
  • Spot check survey stakes, grades, stations, locations and alignments.
  • Ensure all required tests are performed and documented.
  • Prepare and submit documentation and reports according to contract requirements.
  • 50% or more of the work is performed outdoors. You may be subject to hazardous weather, terrain and construction operations.
  • Position requires occasional travel and may require overnight stays away from the office; travel is normally in ODOT provided vehicles.
  • Access includes climbing ladders, traversing scaffolding, and work in elevated locations while wearing the appropriate safety equipment.
  • Work includes lifting at least 50 pounds of material or equipment.
  • May need to work long, flexible hours and be on call 24/7, including holidays.

 What we need:
Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group;
 
OR
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying, or transportation-related engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience;
 
OR
An associate's degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group;
 
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
