Are you interested in making a positive impact on Wisconsin's infrastructure by providing quality assurance inspections on structures throughout the state of Wisconsin?

The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Fabrication Inspector (Transportation Specialist Senior or Advanced) for the Bureau of Structures!

The headquarters for this full-time position is home-based. The position requires frequent independent travel.

Position Summary
This position is located within the Structures Maintenance Section of the Bureau of Structures, and is a member of the Metals and Fabrication Quality Assurance Inspection Unit (SFU), under the general supervision of the SFU Supervisor. The person in this position acts independently with a high level of accountability to assure that the material and weldments which comprise the fabrication of very complex steel highway structures are constructed to the strict specified tolerances necessary to assure proper fitting during the assembly and erection of the structure and that the completed structure does not contain any defects that could cause costly field repairs or catastrophic failure. This position requires coordination of efforts of the fabricator, prime contractor, subcontractors, and the Department of Transportation.

Salary Information
The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-14 with an annual salary of $52,000 to $63,440, plus excellent benefits.

The Avanced Level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $56,160 to $76,960, plus excellent benefits.

A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants at the Senior level will have experience with all the following:

  • Experience with steel bridge fabrication OR inspection
    • Inspection experience may include in-service bridge inspection, construction inspection of bridges, or fabrication inspection of bridges
  • Experience creating, updating, and maintaining reports

In addition to the above, qualified applicants at the Advanced level will meet the following:

Candidate holds a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
