Join our Construction Section as a quality assurance technician in Region 3, Roseburg, Oregon! In this role, you will monitor activities on construction projects and serve as a resource to support agency and contractor personnel. A day in the life:
  • Perform complex and specialized tests on construction materials. Evaluate test results for compliance with specifications and recommend acceptance, rejection, or alternative uses of construction materials.
  • Review contractor quality control programs, including Soils, Aggregate, PCC paving, Structural Concrete, Asphalt, and other highway construction materials.
  • Inspect contractor’s production facilities. Laboratories, and equipment at various locations.
  • Verify proper certifications, monitor and counsel contractor’s technicians in their performance.
  • Keep the Resident Engineer and QAC advised of any deficiencies encountered.
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate laboratory and field-testing machines and equipment.
  • Perform nuclear gauge calibration and/or verification of calibration for nuclear moisture density gauges.
  • Maintain records of material samples and test results.
  • Keep current on construction design, testing, and production practices and procedures by attending continuing education opportunities.
  • Assist with proctoring technician certification exams.
  • Approximately 60% of the work is performed outdoors, in all weather conditions, with exposure to heavy traffic and construction equipment. May be required to lift and carry up to 60 pounds, walk on rough terrain, stoop or bend around structures, and climb ladders and equipment. ANSI boots and outerwear are required. Daily driving occurs, sometimes over long distances, in all weather conditions.
  • Approximately 40% of the work is performed in an office environment, using a computer.
  • This position may require consecutive night work at times dependent upon contractor schedule or Agency needs, which could occur during any 24 hours/7-day period to include weekend and holidays.

 What we need:
Five and one-half years (66 months) of sub-professional engineering experience;
 
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience;
 
OR
An associate's degree in engineering technology from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and four years of experience directly related to engineering.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
 
Requires Radiation Safety Training certification.

  • Knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and document handling programs.
