A day in the life:
  • Engineer bridges and structures of simple to moderately complex design.
  • Perform modeling for structural analysis.
  • Prepare cost estimates and estimates of construction schedules for bridges and structures.
  • Prepare construction specifications for bridges and structures.
  • Perform complete engineering analysis and load rating of existing structures.
  • Provide engineering support to Resident Engineers.
  • Review construction submittals (shop drawings, falsework, shoring, temporary works, fabrications techniques) for structural adequacy and completeness.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment. At times, work is performed in a field environment on project sites and may require walking on rough terrain, near traffic or other hazards. May require working 20 feet or more above ground, traffic and/or water. Occasionally, responding to damage or emergencies, may require working evenings, nights and/or weekends.

 What we need:
Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Note: You do not need to have all of these qualities to be eligible for this position.  
  • Attended school in civil engineering, with a structural emphasis.
  • Experience designing non-bridge highway and transportation-related structures (e.g., retaining walls, culverts, overhead signs).
  • Experience designing simple to moderately complex bridges.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse teams of people to solve problems.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team, where compromise is needed to achieve project goals.
