Overview
We are seeking a hard-working individual to join our team as a Civil Engineer I or II on the Engineering Development Review Services team!

The Larimer County Engineering department offers engaging opportunities for professional development in the ever-evolving field of Civil Engineering. The engineering staff is responsible for development review, floodplains, stormwater, asset management, road and bridge capital improvement projects, traffic engineering and land acquisition. Staff also work to support creation and operation of improvement districts for maintenance and repair of neighborhood subdivision roads. Responsibilities

Specifically, this position:

  • Performs engineering / technical review of various land use and development proposals for both public and private projects within Larimer County.
  • Reviews submitted construction plans, technical reports, utility plans and design data and prepares written comments regarding development proposal for compliance with existing Larimer County standards and general engineering principles.
  • Has oversight of the construction phase of land development projects by performing development construction & field inspections of various projects to monitor progress and ensure conformance to plans, Codes, and standards.
  • Attends televised public hearings and various coordination and review meetings on behalf of the Larimer County Engineering Department.
  • Serves as technical resource to public, consultants, developers, County Boards, County Staff, and others.
  • Researches and responds to citizen inquiries concerning access, drainage, grading, floodplain, or stormwater discharge.
  • Assists in the development, refinement or revisions of standards, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Interprets and enforces County ordinances and appropriate state and federal laws, codes, and regulations.

We are looking for a candidate that will:
  • Understand standard principles and practices of Civil Engineering as applied to public works or civil engineering.
  • Have general knowledge of basic stormwater quality science, environmental issues, and environmental regulations.
  • Have an understanding of typical engineering computations and be able to read and interpret plats, engineering plans, studies, models, & reports for conformance with County standards and Codes.
  • Provide professional customer service to clients and public.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, & persuasively both verbally and in writing.
  • Be creative in designing solutions to resolve difficult issues.
  • Be flexible, organized, and eager to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Have the ability to work effectively and cooperatively within groups of varying perspectives, areas of expertise and interests.
  • Be able to prioritize work activities and accomplish the assigned workload in a timely manner to meet established performance standards and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
  • Use software and business applications, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, Geographic information system (GIS) software and databases, Autocad, and other civil design software.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

Depending on qualifications, this position may hire as an Civil Engineer I or an Civil Engineer II.

  • Civil Engineer I
    • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering required.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.
    • Engineer-Intern Certification preferred.
  • Civil Engineer II
    • At least three (3) years of experience as a Civil Engineer I in Larimer County, or in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
    • Engineer-Intern Certification required.
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado preferred.
    • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.

Supplemental Information

Larimer County will be adjusting pay ranges effective January 13, 2023. Please visit our website at www.larimer.gov/hr/employee-relations/compensation-classification/pay-plan/2023 to view more information. This posting has been adjusted to reflect the new 2023 pay rate.

The typical schedule for this position is 8am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
