This person will interact with customers seeking support from the Structural Materials Evaluation Team through project planning, program management, and material characterization for USAF needs related to specialty materials, maintainability, sustainability, technology maturation, and manufacturing. This person will maintain expertise in identifying maintenance problems, material deficiencies, and developing effective material and process solutions to meet maintenance requirements for USAF aircraft. Additional expertise includes knowledge and expertise in defect/damage repair on aircraft structures and materials, including specialty materials, evaluation of repair efficacy, and development of repair procedures. This person’s responsibilities will include: collaboration with AFRL, industry OEMs, program offices, and maintenance depots, providing expertise and consulting on materials and processing issues, researching and characterizing emerging technologies for maintenance and repair, performing engineering assessments and testing to develop and mature materials and processes, performing independent evaluation of externally developed materials and processes, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards, development of material characterization tools and techniques, evaluation of inspection tools and their effectiveness at quantifying defects, and project management. This person will interact with a number of technical experts from AFRL, UDRI, industry/OEMs, and subcontractors to accomplish the program goals, while leveraging in-house capabilities and labs as well as external. Position requires occasional travel for on-site evaluation, demonstrations, manufacturing process reviews, and programmatic meetings.



Minimum Qualifications

R3 Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, aeronautics engineering, or closely related engineering/science discipline.
• 8 years of relevant experience.
• Hands on experience in aircraft materials, maintenance, inspection, defect/damage evaluation, and repair.
• Experience working with AF Program Offices, maintenance personnel, AF researchers, and OEMs to support maintenance and sustainment activities of USAF aircraft.
• Proficient in reading, understanding, and ensuring compliance with security protocols, standards and specifications, technical orders, maintenance and procedures used in aircraft depots.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Power Point, Excel.
• Proficient written and oral communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a National Agency Check for continued employment.
• Possesses either Secret or Top Secret clearance.

R4 Minimum Qualifications
A R4 must meet all of the R3 Minimum Qualifications in addition to having 12 years of related experience, OR a Master’s degree with 11 years of experience.
 


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Graduate level degree or additional coursework beyond B.S. degree.
• Expertise and extensive experience with advanced/specialty materials used for aircraft repair and maintenance.
• Supervisory and leadership experience with USAF maintenance and sustainment personnel.
• Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
