SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
 
  • Possession of a valid California driver license.
 
  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a professional civil engineer or professional land surveyor issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
 
SALARY AND BENEFITS
 
  • $8,606 - $10,984 APPROXIMATE MONTHLY* / $49.65 - $63.36 APPROXIMATE HOURLY*
  • Holidays: 12 days per year. 
  • Vacation Accrual: 10 days/year for the first 3 years; 15 days/year for years 4-9; 17 days/year for years 10-15; 20 days/year for 16 years and thereafter. 
  • Sick Leave: 12 days per year. Sick leave never expires, and some r all unused sick leave may be converted to CalPERS service credit upon retirement. 
  • Retirement: CalPERS, coordinated with Social Security. 
  • Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plans are available, with the County paying for most of the employee costs, and a portion of the dependent costs. 
  • Life Insurance: Fully paid life insurance and AD&D policy of $25,000. 
  • Deferred Compensation Plan: With the county matching up to 3% of employee contributions. 
  • IRC Section 125 Plan: The pre-tax benefit applies to deductions for health administration fees, union dues, additional live insurance, and more.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
 
The Public Works Department is responsible for construction and maintenance of County roads, bridges, and airports and for supervising several permanent road divisions that maintain private roads on behalf of the citizens in those districts. The department is responsible for overseeing capital improvement projects for County buildings and facilities. The department employs engineers who prepare construction plans as well as supervise construction of these facilities. The department also acts as the County's surveyor and processes subdivision and survey maps. It administers the County's solid waste management functions including an active landfill. The department also manages the County water agency.
 
In addition, the Public Works Department oversees the operation and maintenance of several County service areas. These County service areas include both water and sewer districts along with road, lighting, and flood maintenance districts.
 
ABOUT THE POSITION
 
Under direction, to perform professional field and office engineering work in connection with the design and construction of roads, bridges, drainage and other public works facilities; to perform engineering review and place conditions on various land use maps and plans; to serve as resident engineer on construction projects; and to perform other related work as required.
 
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
 
The ideal candidate will be familiar with civil engineering and road design software, and have experience with general civil engineering design projects.
