The Challenge
We're looking for an Engineering Specialist to join our Location & Surveys team to provide engineering analysis, mapping, and other data for the design of transportation facilities and the acquisition of property for the construction of transportation facilities.
 
In this role, you will:
  • Lead our most complex and advanced assignments including analyzing, evaluating, computing, editing, and processing higher-level engineering and other survey information.
  • Establish (planning, processing, and adjusting) or review the establishment of project control networks utilizing GPS and/or conventional survey methods.
  • Use your independent decision-making and judgment.
  • Provide some supervision and/or direct the work of others.
  • Review technical aspects of survey data and mapping from in-house and contracted services to ensure proper procedures are followed and appropriate accuracies are obtained according to NCDOT, Location & Surveys, and generally-accepted surveying standards.
  • Supervise and review litigation surveys and serve as expert witnesses in litigation cases.
  • Perform your work with very limited technical and fairly limited administrative supervision.
 
What You Bring
  • Experience with route locations and other survey policies and procedures.
  • Experience managing/leading survey crews in daily activities.
  • Technical skills in CADD, MicroStation, and Geopak, including editing others' work.
  • Surveying skills in GPS operations, including  Virtual Reference Station (VRS) and rapid-static.
  • Experience planning and reviewing survey work performed by others.
 
Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or Survey Technology, and
  • 7+ years of progressive technician experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
