Job Description:

As a Development Engineer you will be researching and developing new products that directly impact the performance of our sensing systems. The role is a great blend of hands-on and desk-based engineering within the development and application teams, making it an essential part of our product development and future business plans.
This is a perfect opportunity for someone who has engineering or science- based degree or relevant experience with a creative approach in solving engineering problems, is happy to share ideas and work as a part of an agile and innovative team to test, develop and improve our market leading products.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with mechanical, electronics, software teams and photonics engineers to create new prototype designs and develop existing designs
  • Support with requirements capture, design, prototyping, testing
  • Work closely with production engineers to ensure BOMs are accurate and up to date
  • Maintain accurate records of the design as it evolves including decisions taken and the reasons behind them
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of our products by identifying opportunities to improve performance or reduce manufacturing costs or processing time
  • Assist with estimating timescales for design related tasks
  • Support Production by troubleshooting manufacturing problems, liaising with suppliers to obtain prototype parts and recording procedure documentation relevant to manufacturing operations
  • carrying out mechanical and environmental testing of sensors arrays, interrogators, and related components
  • Adhere to excellent housekeeping within the facility and QHSE policy and practices
Profile:
  • A hands-on and self-motivated team player, with proven experience of planning, tracking, and reporting progress, challenges, and risks.
  • Experience of developing new products within a manufacturing organisation
  • Knowledge of engineering materials/joining techniques
  • Excellent problem solver
  • Fast to learn/adapt to new concepts and technologies
  • A positive outlook on life, enjoying learning with optimism to have fun and take pride in their work
 
Advantageous:
  • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) in Design
  • Knowledge of composite materials and processing
  • Knowledge of sensors/instrumentation/controls
  • Experience of working in a technology company
