The role:  
We are hiring two positions in our Traffic Design Unit! As a traffic analyst, you will work in a team in developing the traffic engineering data requirements for transportation improvement projects and planning studies. A day in the life:
  • Work in a traffic analysis team consisting of transportation analysts and perform duties of a team player. 
  • Perform traffic analysis including multimodal users of transportation facilities.
  • Work on the technical traffic engineering analysis on Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and Job and Transportation Act (JTA) projects.
  • Determine analytical procedures and conclusions, which will control the design of highway improvement projects. 
  • Assist management team in performance appraisals, work improvement plans and provide training for new employees.
  • Perform multifaceted traffic engineering, transportation system and freeway operations and capacity analyses on major projects and assist with construction staging and traffic control.
  • Perform transportation planning studies utilizing the regional VISUM Travel Demand Forecast Model.
  • Lead ODOT representation on METRO and local government committees for Transportation System Plans, future implementation planning studies, and reconnaissance level studies and plans.
  • Conduct technical review of transportation studies for highway improvement projects developed by local agencies to ensure compatibility of project development with operational efficiency and safety of the state highways.
  • Prepare briefing materials, analysis and responses on complex transportation analysis issues.
  • Hybrid work option available. Requires occasional overnight travel may be required. Occasional fieldwork can involve exposure to heavy traffic, sometimes at night.

 What we need:
A valid Professional Engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration within six months of hire.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience leading technical traffic engineering analysis on improvement projects.
  • Experience determining analytical procedures and conclusions.
  • Experience and knowledge of modeling and microscope simulation.
  • Experience and knowledge of VISSIM or similar applications.
