Salary Range: $7,015 - $10,883
 
The role:  
We are recruiting for a region traffic engineer to join our team in La Grande! In this role, you will monitor and direct the work of our Traffic Operations Unit and will support our region and district management and local agencies on various traffic-related topics and analyses. You will also develop and review Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) priorities and develop and review region safety and operations priorities and projects in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at a professional engineer 2 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for a professional engineer 1 ($6,060 - $9,402 monthly) to apply, as we may consider underfilling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for a PE2. Underfill training will not exceed three years.

A day in the life:
  • Serve as a primary contact for traffic engineering and operational requests associated with project development.
  • Responsible for all aspects of work assigned, ensuring projects are completed on time.
  • Review and approve completed plans for conformity with design standards.
  • Develop short term and long range plans based on results and identified needs.
  • Work directly with local government relating to traffic issues, roads, schedules and perceived problems.
  • Identify projects within the region to be included in the STIP, including determining and prioritizing safety and operations projects.
  • Direct the Safety Priority Index System review of accident locations and preliminarily approve proposed procedures.
  • Provide traffic operations recommendations, direction and guidance to management.
  • Provide answers regarding policy and procedure as they apply to traffic operations.
  • Attend meetings that occasionally require travel and overnight stays.

What we need for a professional engineer 2:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.
 
What we need for a professional engineer 1 Underfill Option:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
