Job Description:

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Forestry is recruiting to fill a Radio Communications Specialist (Natural Resources Admin Policy Coordinator) position. This is a statewide posting with location preference given to Madison or Rhinelander; however, other existing DNR facilities may be considered based on the business case presented, space availability and management approval. 

The Radio Communications Specialist provides leadership and direction regarding the planning and administration of the entire department’s radio communication program that is integral to the forest fire management program and law enforcement programs within the department. While located within the Forestry Division, the radio communication program serves all functions within the Department of Natural Resources (Forestry, Law Enforcement, Parks, Wildlife, etc.). The system currently consists of 1800 communication devices and 100 tower sites.  The ideal candidate would be one who strives to provide top-notch customer service and takes initiative and responsibility of his/her work with a strong work ethic.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following required qualifications to be eligible for this position:
  • Experience working with 2-way radio communications systems, infrastructure, and technology.
  • Experience interpreting policies and providing guidance to others
  • Candidate has experience with project management, and contract management.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, resolving conflicts, and time management skills
  • Experience in demonstrating effective interpersonal relationship skills building relationships with internal and external partners along with oral and written communications (specifications, standards and policy writing, correspondence, report writing, etc.)
 
Best-qualified candidates will also possess the following preferred qualifications.
  • Experience in researching, configuring, integrating, programming, and testing radio communications systems and solutions.
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team of people
  • Experience measuring program/project performance and implementing continuous quality improvement strategies
  • Experience with Incident Command System and is a qualified or can attain COML or COMT credentials with the National Wildfire Coordinating Group
  • Candidate has experience providing training in either individual or group settings.
  • Experience developing budgets along with monitoring allocations and commitments of funds and resources.
