Job Description:

Civil Engineer
As an Engineer for Floyd County Commissioners, this position will be responsible for designing infrastructure projects for drainage, erosion, and grading and conducting various inspections and reviews of County infrastructure.
DUTIES:
Designs infrastructure projects for drainage, erosion, and grading, including reviewing related plans and developing plausible solutions to identified issues, such as redirecting drainage or resizing pipes or calculating detention/retention volumes.
Conducts site visits and inspects sites for erosion control, reporting Erosion Project Sediment Control (EPSC) information as needed. Attends and presents information at Storm water Board meetings, regarding EPSC of various County sites.
Responds to public concerns regarding storm water, drainage, and related development.
Inspects and rates County roads with Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) system.
Prepares and reviews construction calculations and bid tabulations.
Reviews and prepares bids for pavement projects, including advertising projects, collecting bids, reviewing applications, and awarding and authorizing payments.
Maintains current knowledge of engineering principles and developments, including pursuing Professional Civil Engineering license
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering with participation in a cooperative education and/or internship program.
Practical knowledge and ability to make practical applications of standard principles and practices of engineering and state and local regulations regarding drainage, erosion, and grading, including assessing County needs and effectively planning, designing, coordinating, and complaining appropriate, cost-effective projects.
Practical knowledge of, and ability to read, interpret, and apply, state and local zoning and building codes, maps, and county geography.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to provide public access to, or maintain confidentiality of, department information and records according to state requirements.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County and State departments, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to plan and present public speaking presentations, fundraisers, and special events.
Ability to occasionally work extended hours and evenings, and travel out of town for seminars and training, sometimes overnight.
Possession of a valid driver’s license with demonstrated safe driving record.
