The role:

You will be a resource for the region and participate as a member of a design team responsible for designing roadway portions of contract plans and ensuring continuity for moderately complex transportation projects. A day in the life:
  • Independently prepare and design the roadway portion of plans and estimates on moderately complex transportation construction and reconstruction projects.
  • Serve as a resource to construction staff on design related and other project issues after contract letting.
  • Consult with and coordinate contract plan preparation with other units and agencies.
  • Prepare and analyze design alternatives during environmental study and project delivery.
  • Prepare project cost estimates and impact assessments for alternative design solutions during project delivery.
  • Participate on value engineering teams.
  • Serve as the roadway engineering technical advisor while participating on multidiscipline project scoping teams.
  • Provide technical and procedural guidance on project development and project delivery issues.
  • Work primarily on projects within the region and coordinate with both ODOT and consultant survey staff to reference and gather field data.
  • Hybrid remote work options available! Work is performed in an office environment and requires traveling for field scoping and inspection trips.

What we need:
Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
Special Qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Note: You do not need to have all of these qualities to be eligible for this position. 
  • Progressively responsible experience in the practice of transportation engineering methods is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or transportation related engineering is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of field construction and location practices and principles.
  • Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads, InRoads or other digital design applications.
  • Proficiency with Bentley Connect, Microstation or other computer aided design (CAD) drafting applications.
