UDRI's Sustainment Technology Transition division (STT) supports government and commercial clients in developing, prototyping, testing, and qualifying advanced manufacturing parts, equipment, and processes for commercialization and production. STT houses state-of-the-art X-ray computed tomography (XCT) equipment, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) for residual stress measurements, eddy current, and ultrasonic instruments for non-destructive evaluation (NDE). The NDE Engineer will support process development and qualification for additively manufactured (AM) parts, cold spray (CS) repairs, and other advanced manufacturing technologies by applying USAF and industry standards and best practices to establish NDE acceptance and rejection criteria, inspection methods, and procedures, as well as performing and reporting XCT scanning, reconstruction, and analysis, residual stress measurements using XRD, and eddy current and ultrasonic measurements.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in relevant science or engineering field (Materials, Chemical, Metallurgy, Mechanical, Polymer, Aerospace, Physics).
2. 3 years of experience in material characterization or Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) engineering role(s) in aerospace, technology transition, or manufacturing setting(s).
3. NDE experience applying XCT, and at least one of the following techniques:
digital radiography (DR), XRD, electromagnetic testing (ET), ultrasonic testing (UT), phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT), or thermography NDE methods to evaluation of materials, processes, or components.
4. Experience applying fundamental physics and process-property relationships to process development, troubleshooting, and qualification.
5. Experience using advanced software for data analysis and image processing.
6. Attention to detail and organizational skills.
7. Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
8. Due to the nature of this position, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

2. Master's degree in (Materials, Chemical, Metallurgy, Mechanical, Polymer, Aerospace, Physics, NDE).
3. More than 3 years of experience in materials characterization or NDE engineering role(s) in aerospace, technology transition, or manufacturing setting(s).
5. Experience with XCT data analysis and image processing.
6. Experience planning and conducting experiments, analysis, and interpretation.
7. Experience qualifying aerospace products and processes; working knowledge of US Air Force policies and procedures.
8. Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
