The Opportunity

WSDOT is eager to hire an experienced engineer to serve as our next Assistant Office Engineer in Seattle. This position will assist the Office Engineer with contract payments, documentation, final records, aid in the development and completion of contractual change orders and perform various other office tasks as needed. As the Assistant Office Engineer, this position will help coordinate work with the functions of all other members of a project office, contractors, and other organizations throughout the region and WSDOT HQ.  
 
What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Assistant Office Engineer will:

  • Make payments to the Contractor within the monthly cut off dates for each contract, maintain project documentation, and close out contracts upon completion of the work
  • Direct the review of calculations, methods of measurement, payment, field notes, final records, and force account work.
  • Update and keep current with the Blue Book and industrial insurance rates for all contractors.
  • Maintain a project ledger for the Engineer, all through the course of progress payments and contract work.
  • Process force accounts, including checking force account records as received from inspectors and administrators
  • Utilize FIRS, Cognos, TRAINS, CCIS, CAPS, etc. to perform project control and change order engineering tasks
  • Analyze contract issues and write accurate, concise, and well-crafted technical reports, letters and change orders. 
  • Track, develop, estimate, and write contract change orders as the changes occur

 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1, or equivalent experience in a related Construction and/or Civil Engineering position. 
  • Current drivers license. 
  • Fluent understanding of Microsoft Excel, Sharepoint, Primavera P6, Primavera Contract Manager, CCIS, CAPS, TRAINS, Cognos, and any other WSDOT contract administration software. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with people in a professional manner to facilitate the construction of transportation projects.
  • Knowledge of construction/engineering procedures and practices, research methods and data collection, communication and correspondence practices. 
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of times at day and/or night, including weekends to meet project deadlines. 
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 35lbs. 

 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent experience in a related Construction and/or Civil Engineering position.
