Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Headquarters Bridge and Structures Office is currently seeking an individual to serve as the State Bridge Design Engineer to provide direction, guidance, and management to the highway structure engineering program for the entire State of Washington. This position is responsible for managing a staff of 50 individuals and developing and implementing programs for the structural design and rehabilitation of WSDOT owned bridges. The State Bridge Design Engineer also serves as the Lead Structural Design Engineer for Washington state in the areas of design, research, codes and standards, and rehabilitation of all state bridges. The incumbent of this position will represent WSDOT on national policy and code writing as member on the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures, and national industry technical committees. This position provides leadership and direction to all design units for correct interpretation of AASHTO design specification, the WSDOT Bridge Design Manual, and other related structural design codes and policies. This position also provides leadership for design section managers in resolving consultant structural design issues and local program structural design issues. During construction, this position facilitates resolution of major structural design-related construction issues and represents WSDOT at numerous design/construction industry functions.
