Job Description:

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Civil Engineer Specialist in Glendive and Wolf Point locations.  These positions serve as an entry-level civil engineer within the assigned district are responsible for conducting in-depth engineering and analysis, administer contracts, oversee projects, and project design, and may serve as a lead worker. Work is assigned through instruction on specific engineering objectives and direction and the incumbent determines the best solution based on established engineering guidelines, knowledge and skills. Completed work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.  

This position is an entry level and is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities.  Applications will be reviewed weekly.

Qualifications
: 

Entry Level - The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

  • Travel is required and can vary from a few times per year, with one or more overnight stays to extensive overnight travel that may occur on short notice, weekends and holidays and working outdoors in all types of weather.

  • Duties may be performed on active construction sites in close proximity of heavy equipment, hot asphalt and high-speed traffic.

  • A valid Montana Driver's License is required. Driver's record will be verified.   • This position belongs to the MFPE bargaining unit. The successful candidate will receive more information about the union and the option to join the union during the onboarding process.
  • This position is an entry level Civil Engineering Specialist position.  Passage of the FE is not required; however, if the successful candidate has passed the FE and holds current EIT certification, he/she will be hired as non-union.  If the successful candidate has passed their FE but does not hold a current EIT certification or PE Licensure, he/she will be hired as part of the MFPE union.
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.
