The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a motivated individual with strong contract administrative skills and a construction background to fill the Office Engineer position in Spokane, WA. As an Office Engineer, you will support WSDOT's mission by managing the scope, schedule, and budget of the design/construction of highway projects while supervising three or more engineering and technical employees in the delivery of these projects. This person will mentor and identify training needs of each team member ensuring that they obtain the necessary training for career development and the success of the project. Communication is paramount, as this position will regularly communicate with key members within WSDOT as well as local agencies, contractors, and others. What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:

  • Schedule and direct all contract inspection activities on multiple and/or major construction projects.
  • Review plans and clarify questions pertaining to those plans. 
  • Work with contractors on workforce scheduling, plans and specification interpretation, paperwork and plans submittals, and issue resolution.
  • Direct the submittal of all field documentation.
  • Track quantities, costs, and workforce to stay within budget and address problems early. 
  • Compile backup data, cost estimates and justification for change orders.
  • Review justification for payments on contract estimates.
  • Manage risk and provide monthly and quarterly reporting. 
  • Direct, schedule, and participate in office design, design documentation, and PS&E efforts.
  • Manage design project’s scope, schedule, and budget, including change and risk management and monthly and quarterly reporting. 
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • One (1) year experience as a Transportation Engineer 2, Bridge Engineer 2, or equivalent. 
  • Valid driver’s license. 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field or a certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
