The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill the Structures Asset Management Engineer (Structural Engineer Transportation Advanced) vacancy in the Bureau of Structures!

This full-time position can be headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin RapidsRhinelander, Green Bay, Superior, Eau Claire, Waukesha, or La Crosse!

Position Summary

This position works closely with other department bridge and asset management staff and consultant contractors in the development, implementation, and use of bridge management and asset management systems. This position has extensive contact within the Division of Transportation System Development, Federal Highway Administration, and the public, and serves as a resource for information in asset and bridge management.

The primary function of this position is to facilitate the inclusion of structures asset management recommendations into improvement projects. This position will work most closely with: BOS asset management staff, BOS design certification liaisons, and BOS inspection and maintenance engineers to understand and refine the recommendations for structures work that are developed using BOS asset management tools; Regional planning staff to discuss and coordinate including the structures improvement recommendations into improvement projects.

Key work activities for the position include: Leading regular BOS certification meetings to discuss project-specific certification issues amongst the three BOS sections, as well as more general asset management policies; Serving as the lead for the Structures Certification Tool (SCT), documenting bugs and needed enhancements, directing and monitoring progress on the development of the tool, and developing/facilitating training for the tool and promoting its use; Attending Backbone meetings to stay informed on overall improvement program status and offer a structures perspective, as needed; Coordinating with Division of Transportation Investment Management (DTIM) to ensure that their asset management planning tools are integrated and/or complement each other; Working with DTIM to promote structures asset management recommendations for the local program.

This position also serves to support the other structures asset management engineers and activities within the bureau. This includes the collection, validation, and management of structures inventory and condition data, as well as supporting process and procedure improvements in how that data is collected. The position also supports the development and maintenance of structures preservation policy, treatment cycles, and the tools that support these.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $79,040 - $91,520, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have a valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
