Job Description:

Summary:
Porex is looking for a Process Engineer based in St. Charles, Michigan. Engineers at Porex initiate, design, develop, optimize and problem solve manufacturing and supporting processes.  The Process Engineer will report to the Managing Director and serve on the plant leadership team.  Provide support to the site via timely transitions of new business opportunities to operations, root cause investigation and implementation of resolution to quality issues, productivity improvement and waste reduction.  Drive cost-savings initiatives and implement continuous improvement strategies for all production processes. 
 
About the Role:
  • Coordinates activities related to the industrialization and transfer of new products.
  • Functions as project manager and implementer for process related capital improvement projects.
  • Practice continuous improvement strategies while continually monitoring production activities (rates & yields) and support services in order to increase productivity and product quality while reducing waste.
  • Solicit and provide ideas for the elimination of waste, continuous improvement and defect prevention.
  • Initialize or provide input for part production instruction changes or updates.
  • Develop/update procedures/training documents.
  • Perform new equipment initial production runs and develop the necessary standard operating procedures to ensure the safety of our production staff.
  • Design and Development: Initiate, design, develop and optimize Manufacturing/Converting assets and supporting processes.
  • Technical Knowledge: Develop knowledge and skills to be recognized as an implementer of engineering principles and /or scientific analysis in meeting unit objectives.
  • Safety: Support implementation of the loss control improvement process by compliance with critical safety rules. Visibly demonstrate that safety is a value by following safety procedures, maintaining a safe workplace and complying with safety rules. Develop equipment, processes and products that meet safety codes, policies and guidelines. Actively participate in achieving organization and personal safety objectives. Follow the Safety Roles and Responsibilities Matrix by holding yourself and all team members accountable.
  • Security and Documentation: Maintain security and documentation to ensure the retrieval of data and protection of proprietary information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills particularly in use of DMAIC and Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Strong Communication skills to effectively interface with internal and external customers.
  • Human Resources Development: Assist in the development of others in the area of his/her expertise, while demonstrating an understanding of those with a diverse background or experience.
  • Quality: Improve process capability to deliver a reduction in defects and variability. Identify, develop, and implement products, processes, materials, systems, and procedures to achieve business objectives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Diversity: Contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results.
  • Identify and resolve process and equipment problems.
  • Document work to ensure information is retrievable.
  • Completes all tasks as assigned by Manager.

Skills & Experience:
  • Previous experience with polyurethane foam systems and manufacturing highly preferred.
  • Previous experience with Lean and Six Sigma a plus.
  • Previous Operational Leadership a plus.
  • Authorized to work in the US (no sponsorships).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work across all levels of the organization.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).
  • Minitab proficiency preferred.
  • New product Start up experience and plant layout experience.
  • Relocation a must.
  • 3-5 years experience
 
Education:
  • Minimum BS in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry.  BS Chemical Engineering preferred.
