Job Description:

The University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking a highly motivated and highly talented engineer to perform research in the area of composites testing and analysis. The successful candidate will have experience in performing advanced mechanical testing activities on polymer and ceramic matrix composites as well as metals in support of sponsored research activities in advanced materials. The applicant must be able to interpret and analyze experimental data, and be proficient in technical report writing. A successful candidate must be able to learn quickly and work independently. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with experience in laboratory management and ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and equipment.


Minimum Qualifications
• A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited University
• Minimum 1 year of experience working with composites to measure mechanical behavior and material properties
• Experience conducting advanced mechanical tests using servo-hydraulic and electro-mechanical test machines and design of test fixtures
• Experience with strain gages, LVDT's and extensometers
• Successful experience in the setup and execution of standard mechanical test procedures following ASTM, ISO, and MIL Standards
• Ability to perform data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation
• Proven time management skills / work habits
• Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally
• Due to funding from US Government Agencies, US citizenship is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Experience with composite fabrication equipment such as presses, autoclave, injection molder, VARTM, etc.
• Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD and LabView
• Troubleshooting of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Demonstrated successful experience with calibration, maintenance, and operation of ancillary equipment in a mechanical testing facility

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
