The Opportunity
WSDOT’s Information Technology Division (ITD) is currently seeking a network and telecommunication professional to serve as an IT Network & Telecommunications – Journey in Shoreline, WA. The position provides professional technical support for all telecommunications systems in the NW Region. This position ensures reliable voice communications for employees, partner agencies, and public customers when using various central telephone systems, desk phones, softphone app for PC, Android and iOS, and voice and data circuits in a 24 hour / 7 day environment. The position supports the critical need of employees to communicate while carrying out their mission of operating and improving the state’s transportation systems and ensuring the safety of the traveling public. Position is also responsible for public safety E911 roadway emergency phones and communication with state emergency services.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the IT Network & Telecommunications – Journey will:

  • Provide technical support of telecommunications systems for the Northwest Region (NWR).
  • Use Avaya Public Branch Exchange (PBX) software to make programming changes to perform account additions, moves, changes, and deletions of user accounts and other tasks to ensure all employees have access to a fully functioning telecommunications network.
  • Purchase, install, maintain, and repair all telephone hardware and software; administer and program voice mail systems for all end users.
  • Troubleshoot and repair connectivity issues to ensure continuous voice communication ability.
  • Provide technical support of voice and data cabling/wiring infrastructure for the NWR.
  • Design, install, and support NWR E911 roadway emergency phone system.
  • Provide telecommunication circuit connections between region site locations in NWR.
  • Monitor, maintain, and support WSDOT PC workstations (desktop, PC, tablet) and mobile devices (Android and iOS). Work in conjunction with the workstation support and network/server teams to provide support and services to WSDOT regional staff members.
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience working in information technology.
OR
  • A two-year degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and six (6) years of experience working in information technology.
OR
  • Eight (8) years of experience working in information technology.
In addition to one of the above, qualified candidates must also have:
  • Two (2) years of experience in effectively communicating and providing assistance to a diverse set of information technology peers.
  • Two (2) years of experience providing technical consulting and performing installation of IT hardware and software.
  • Two (2) years of experience supporting telecommunications hardware and software such as PBX systems, IP Office systems, desk phones, cell phones, and voicemail.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Working knowledge of Avaya voice systems.
  • Working knowledge of call recording and call management applications.

  • This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
  • This position requires regular travel to various sites throughout the region. Occasional travel to other sites across the state with possible overnight stays.
  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
