The role:  

Apply today to be a roadway engineer in Roseburg! In this role, you will be a member of the design team responsible for the design and continuity of the roadway portion of contract plans for complex transportation projects. You will also play a vital part in supporting project design during construction.

A day in the life:

  • Independently design and prepare the roadway portion of plans, special provisions and estimates for large or complex projects.

  • Consult with and coordinate project design and specification activities between the unit, other sections and agencies.

  • Provide technical support for the project manager during construction.

  • Provide grades, review contractor submittals and make recommendations on proposed design changes.

  • Coordinate, review and check field location data and preliminary designs for compliance with state and federal design standards.

  • Assemble plans and estimates from other units for design acceptance and preliminary plans.

  • Plan, assign, train and review the work of other designers in the preparation of contract plans.

  • Work with computer aided design technicians to produce base sheets, make revisions and produce final plans.

  • Represent the region roadway manager at staff meetings, technical meetings, public meetings and project development team meetings.

  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires attending frequent meetings throughout the region and occasional field scoping and inspection trips.

What we need:

A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.

Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Working knowledge of field construction and location practices and principles.

  • Ability to apply advanced engineering judgement and engineering principles in the development of complex transportation projects.

  • Advanced knowledge in roadway design techniques used to produce plans for public infrastructure projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of roadway design and CAD software programs such as InRoads and MicroStation.

  • Experience building and developing working relationships with peers, colleagues and customers to achieve a common goal.
