Cellula Robotics Ltd is seeking to hire for the role of AUV Systems Engineer. We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is excited about robotics.  We will consider applicants of all levels, from entry level to senior engineer.  You will be expected to contribute to the research, design, development and operation of both cruising and hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Eligible for P.Eng or EIT with EGBC
  • Eligible for Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status (security clearance requirement)
  • 1+ yrs relevant experience (in industry, co-op, or grad school)

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a small team developing AUVs.  Interact with software, electrical & mechanical engineers.  Liaise with business development & project management staff.
  • Work within projects and across projects to help coordinate R&D and Product objectives and provide technical leadership.
  • Generate high level diagrams that are neat, clear and impactful to support all elements of AUV design, operation & support.  Detailed CAD is not a mandatory skill.
  • Become a “go to” resource for all aspects of AUV design & operation and provide technical leadership to projects.
  • Support the creation and management of QA systems for AUV design and operations support.
  • Learn about and become able to explain how AUVs work, from basic hydrodynamics, through actuator motion, sensor feedback, filtering, control loops, communications stacks, and low & high-level software layers. 
  • Participate in the selection, evaluation, configuration and operation of key AUV components, software, and middleware.  Be able to justify trade-offs for business or technical reasons. 
  • Write clear, concise and accurate AUV system level documents, including:
    • Requirements specifications
    • Risk analyses
    • Design documents
    • Interface control documents
    • Test plans & reports
  • Troubleshoot AUV systems efficiently
  • Contribute to academic papers & trade magazine articles
  • Stay current on relevant technologies
  • Provide AUV training to clients.
  • International travel may be required
  • Offshore work may be required

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • AUV design and operations experience
  • Microsoft: Windows, Word, Excel, Visio
  • Linux: Ubuntu, ROS
  • MTBF and reliability analysis
  • NMEA 0183 protocol messages
  • “Seamanship”, e.g. Small boats, knots, weather
  • Subsea electrical systems and sensors
  • ISO 9001 quality environment
