In this role, you will use decision making abilities to perform design work and specialized drafting for a wide variety of applications. You will also develop, manage and maintain unit CADD files. A day in the life:

  • Use conventional equipment or advanced computer software (Microstation, Inroads, Adobe, ArcMap, gINT) to draft complex engineering geology, geotechnical, environmental, bridge, hydraulic and roadway engineering projects.

  • Prepare drawings that show complete detail of locations and placement of design elements that conform to standards.

  • Maintain close coordination with designers throughout the preparation of plans.

  • Review plans for lack of design details based on past or gained experience and report deficiencies to the attention of the supervisor, lead worker or designer.

  • Prepare less complex designs and engineer’s estimates for engineering geology, geotechnical and bridge engineering which includes gathering background information and preparing quantities for estimates.

  • Develop, detail and draft new and revised drawings from free sketches and verbal or written direction.

  • Perform drafting for technical reports and other technical publications prepared by the Geo/Bridge/Environmental Unit.

  • Mentor and assist personnel in drafting, CADD skills and procedures.

What we need:

Five and one-half years (66 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.

OR

An associate's degree in engineering technology from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and four years of experience directly related to engineering.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience (such as a bachelor’s degree in engineering plus two and one-half years’ engineering experience).

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Proficiency in using conventional equipment or advanced computer software to draft complex engineering projects.

  • Skills in developing and reviewing digital plans for the construction of transportation or other public works projects.

  • Experience developing, detailing and drafting new and revised drawings from free sketches and verbal direction.

  • Experience mentoring and assisting staff in drafting or CADD skills and procedures.

  • Experience contributing to a positive, productive, collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Proficiency in computer and CADD software such as Microstation, Inroads, OpenRoads, Adobe, ArcMap or gINT.
