The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill an Emergency Response Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Advanced) vacancy for the Bureau of Highway Maintenance!

This full-time position will be headquartered in Madison, WI.

Position Summary

This position assists the State Maintenance Engineer with the administration of various highway operations programs. This position serves as the Department’s liaison to the Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This position reviews damages and makes recommendations on repairs when a catastrophe or natural disaster affects the integrity of state highways.  In addition, this position manages the permitting of major utility transmission installations within Department of Transportation (DOT) rights-of-way.

Responsibilities of this position include assessing maintenance operations for engineering integrity, developing manuals related to engineering procedures, writing administrative rules, establishing and administering consultant contracts, developing policies and guidelines, and conducting policy analyses. Responsibilities also require extensive communications and coordination with the transportation region offices, other DOT Sections, utility companies, other Wisconsin agencies, the Federal Highway Administration, legislators, other state highway agencies, businesses, and the general public.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $72,800 to $91,520, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
