This is a Structures Construction Program leader in the Bureau of Structures (BOS), Structures Design Section working under the general policy direction of the Structures Design Section Chief. This position is primarily responsible for acting as the BOS contact in the construction of transportation structures including, but not limited to; bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, noise walls, and sign structures. The responsibilities of this position may involve highly professional or technical judgements on transportation structures varying from routine to complex types, which carry significant consequences of error.
This position coordinates and works to resolve structures construction project issues within BOS; with all appropriate sections within the Bureaus of Project Development, Traffic Operations, and Technical Services; as well as with Design, Maintenance, Geotechnical, and Construction Sections within the respective Region Offices. Coordination activities include significant levels of contact and communication with project personnel, technical resources internal and external to BOS, other state and federal agencies and departments, amongst others. This position will be utilized primarily for structures construction assignments, but also will assist the BOS Design Section in other technical capacities.
This position requires a structural background in design, maintenance, and/or construction to perform technical activities requiring a high level of accountability. This position requires thorough knowledge and experience with the WisDOT Standard Specifications, the WisDOT Bridge Manual, the WisDOT Construction and Materials Manual, typical transportation structures detailing practices, etc.
Salary Information
The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $66,560 to $84,240, plus excellent benefits.
The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $79,040 to $91,520, plus excellent benefits.
A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have all the following:
- Candidate must have 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited University, EIT Credential, or Professional Engineer (PE) credential
- At least 3.5 years of experience post-graduation in design, construction, or maintenance of transportation structures (structures are defined as bridges, culverts, sound walls, retaining walls or sign bridges)
To be eligible at the Advanced level, candidates must have a valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
