The role:  
 
Join our team in Roseburg as a resident engineer! In this role, you will direct the development of outsourced contracts for highly complex construction projects and the contract administration of all approved construction contracts. You will also be the organizational expert in the management of construction and consultant design contracts and help mentor other staff. Apply today!

A day in the life:
 
  • Communicate with staff and contractors about construction project progress and issues.
  • Mentor and coach staff.
  • Build positive and professional working relationships with internal staff, local jurisdictions, stakeholders and the public.
  • Work closely with project development staff to coordinate design reviews and resolve constructability issues.
  • Coordinate written and oral communications to varying audiences both internally and externally.
  • Answer public inquiries.
  • Review plans, specification and contracts.
  • Ensure contract compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), environmental and other regulatory requirements.
  • Work directly with the manager on contract and personnel issues.
  • Ensure staff have proper training and equipment to perform their work safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in statewide meetings to support the region and other resident engineers.
  • Work requires being on call 24 hours a day/7 days a week (including holidays), frequent travel to remote construction sites, working around heavy traffic and construction equipment and working in adverse weather conditions.

What we need:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.
 
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with a variety of audiences including internal and external partners.
  • Experience leading and working with multidiscipline teams with varying viewpoints and perspectives.
  • Experience related to transportation projects, highway construction and contract resolution.
  • Ability to use advanced engineering judgment and apply engineering principles in highly complex and controversial contract management situations.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring staff to build a positive work environment and a trusting, cohesive team.
