The role:  

Join our Statewide Project Delivery Branch’s Construction Section as a quality assurance coordinator! In this role, you will ensure the required quality assurance testing is performed consistently and accurately throughout the region. This position is vital to keep crews operating efficiently and provides safe work conditions not only for employees but the traveling public as well.

A day in the life:

  • Perform complex and specialized tests on construction materials.

  • Evaluate test results for compliance with specifications and recommend acceptance, rejection or alternative uses of construction materials.

  • Maintain records of received material samples and test results.

  • Act as the senior quality assurance coordinator lead worker for day to day scheduling of quality assurance testing personnel.

  • Assign and review work, compute and evaluate test results.

  • Assist the region assurance specialists and quality control compliance specialists in reviewing quality and quantity documentation.

  • Maintain repair and calibrate laboratory and field testing machines and equipment.

  • Perform nuclear gauge calibration and verification of calibration for nuclear moisture density gauges.

  • Assist in internal and external training at the yearly technician schools.

  • Mentor and support quality assurance and contractor personnel on testing procedures, sampling and reviewing test data.

  • Work is primarily performed outside and requires working long hours and subject to being on call 24 hours including weekends and holidays.

  • Daily exposure to traffic, construction equipment, weather, hazardous chemicals, equipment and radioactive sources and may require lifting up to 60 pounds, moving around rough terrain and climbing ladders.

What we need:

Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.

OR

An associate's degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.

OR

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying, or transportation-related engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Knowledge of mathematics and highway construction procedures and practices.

  • Experience and formal training performing construction materials testing.

  • Ability to read and comprehend construction contract documents including plans, specifications and estimates.

  • Experience using spreadsheet and word processing applications on a computer.

  • Current and valid ODOT certifications:

    • Certified Aggregate Technician (CAgT)

    • Certified Embankment and Base Technician (CEBT)

    • Quality Control Technician (QCT)

    • Certified Density Technician (CDT)

    • Certified Asphalt Technician 1 (CAT-1)

    • Certified Asphalt Technician 2 (CAT-2)

    • Concrete Control Technician (CCT)
