The Structural Materials (SM) Division at the University of Dayton Research (UDRI) Institute is seeking a talented Technician to support research test programs that produce mechanical property data for mechanical characterization, structural integrity evaluation, and life prediction methodology. The position is within the Advanced Materials Characterization Group located at WPAFB. Specific duties include specimen surface preparation, dimensional measurements, and other characterization requirements for defining specimen testing requirements. Conduct basic specimen testing protocol under direction of Research Engineer or Sr. Technician. Assist with equipment set-up, configuration, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair, as well as development of new testing capabilities. Assist with laboratory compliance to all Air Force regulations. This position supports laboratory operation and will incur periodic activities that are dirty and oily.

Minimum Qualifications

T3 Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma
• Strong mechanical, electrical, or electronic maintenance background with 8 years of experience in a research or testing environment. Formal technical training beyond high school can be substituted for two years of related experience.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment and basic repair
• Experience using basic hand tools and mechanical shop equipment
• Ability to read basic dimensional prints
• Experience with basic computer operation and MS Office Suite
• Proficient resolving PC hardware, software installation, basic network support, and maintenance problems
• Ability to work in a team environment requiring multi-tasking operations
• Possesses good problem solving, organizational, communication, and record keeping skills
• Capable of periodic lifting up to 50 lbs
• US citizen able to obtain basic security clearances

T4 Minimum Qualifications:
A T4 must meet all of the T3 qualification in addition to a minimum of twelve years of related technical experience. Formal technical training beyond high school can be substituted for two years of related experience.

 


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Associate degree in electrical, electronic, or mechanical engineering
• Experience with machine shop (mill, lathe, bandsaw, etc.) operation
• Experience with plumbing, electrical wiring, and simple construction
• Experience with mechanical testing and servo-hydraulic equipment
• Knowledge in use of CAD or other drawing software
