Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Active Transportation Division (ATD) is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 4 to serve as the Active Transportation Projects Engineer. This position is critical to advancing WSDOT’s support to local agencies and tribes for safety, equity, mobility, and accessibility including ADA requirements in active transportation design and traffic operations. Under the direction of the Active Transportation Programs Manager, the Active Transportation Projects Engineer provides active transportation design and traffic operations technical assistance and training to local agencies and tribes; supports analysis of proposed projects submitted to active transportation funding programs; collaborates with WSDOT colleagues to develop design and traffic operations guidance (such as design policy, illustrated guides, and standard plans) suitable for use in advising jurisdictions; and provides training on policies and best practices for local agencies and WSDOT staff. They will also work on teams that recommend policy and practice changes for the active transportation funding programs. As a member of the highly collaborative ATD team this position will interact with WSDOT headquarters divisions and regions, as well as regional, tribal, and local agency partners across the state, and interested constituents/stakeholders. They will establish and maintain effective communications, support teamwork, and encourage collaboration and engagement on relevant subjects both internal and external to WSDOT, working to enhance the capabilities and relationships of local/tribal partners and WSDOT staff.
