This position is for an on-site technician within the Nonstructural Materials Division with the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), Dayton, OH. The person hired for this position will be working as an on-site contractor for UDRI at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The person hired for this position will support the technical areas of aerospace adhesive bonding and polymer matrix composite materials. The position requires performing prebond surface preparations to metals and composite substrates, curing and machining composite and adhesively bonded specimens, environmentally aging materials, performing material evaluation tests, documenting test results, and maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities.


Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to follow instructions, exercise sound judgement, exhibit good work habits, and have a high level of interest and aptitude for working with adhesive and composite materials
• Experience using spray guns to apply primers and/or paints to surfaces
• Experience performing mechanical property testing using a test frame and recording data from the tests
• Possess good organizational skills
• Effective written communication skills
• Ability to work well with others and as part of a team
• Due to the nature of this position, U.S. Citizenship is required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance and Special Access Programs will be required for continued employment in this position


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Experience performing prebond surface preparations on metallic and polymeric substrates
• Experience fabricating polymer matrix composite parts or using adhesive materials
• Knowledge of standardized test methods used to characterize aerospace polymers, composites, and adhesives
• Machining experience (i.e. mills, band saw, drill press, lathe, etc.)
• Experience performing conditioning for durability studies of materials
• Experience working on a U.S. Department of Defense installation
